JAKARTA (Kemenag) - Secretary General of the Ministry of Religion Kamaruddin Amin believes the productive waqf movement can be a solution for improving welfare and efforts to remove extreme poverty. This was confirmed by Kamaruddin Amin during the launching of the Islamic Education Waqf Movement in Jakarta, Saturday (8/16/2025).

According to Kamaruddin, waqf, which has been better known as the construction of mosques, schools, or worship facilities, must be transformed into productive waqf that are economically efficient. "Through modern governance, digitalization, and safe sharia investment models, waqf can make a real contribution to improving the welfare of the poor," he said when.

"Through this Islamic Education Waqf Movement, the Ministry of Religion will move waqf in a more productive, transparent, and professional direction. With proper management, waqf can be a support for the development of education, health, to the economic empowerment of the community.

Kamaruddin who is also the Chairperson of the Indonesian Waqf Agency stressed the importance of cross -institutional synergy. He mentioned that the Ministry of Religion would strengthen coordination with BWI, Baznas, zakat institutions, Islamic philanthropic institutions, and the business world so that the use of people's funds is more directed and broad -impact.

Kamaruddin is optimistic that with the Legal Umbrella of Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2025, the ecosystem of the management of people's funds will be stronger and integrated. This is also a momentum to prove that Islamic economic instruments can make a significant contribution to national development.

The same thing was conveyed by the Director General of Islamic Education, Amien Suyitno. He stressed that this movement is expected to be a new milestone to finance various strategic programs of Islamic education.

"We encourage the waqf of education so that it does not just become a social deed, but it becomes a future investment. Through waqf, we want to bring more quality madrassas, more independent pesantren, and more competitive Islamic tertiary institutions," said the Director General.

The launch of the Islamic Education Waqf Movement is expected to be a new starting point in building an independent, innovative, and sustainable Islamic education ecosystem. With the support of the people, Islamic education is believed to be able to print superior generations who are not only intellectually intelligent, but also strongly strong and global competitiveness, he said

The event was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Religion Echelon I and the Chancellor of PTKIN throughout Indonesia. The Islamic Education Waqf Movement is expected to be a new milestone in strengthening the independence of Islamic education, as well as proving that sharia economic instruments are able to provide real solutions to the nation's development.
