JAKARTA (Kemenag) - The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) launched the Islamic Education Waqf Movement program. The program initiated through the Directorate General of Islamic Education as well as a collaboration with the Indonesian Waqf Agency (BWI) has the theme of developing an Islamic education waqf ecosystem for Indonesia. This initiation is a strategic program to build a philanthropical climate of Islam for the future of a superior generation of nation.

"Today, let us launch a key paradise named Waqf by jointly reading Al-Fatihah's letter," said the Minister of Religion when launching the Islamic Education Waqf Movement program in Jakarta, Saturday (8/16/2025).

The Islamic Education Waqf Movement is a strategic initiative that is in line with one of the Ministry of Religion's Asta Protas programs, in this case economic empowerment of the people.

"This Islamic education waqf movement is a strategic step in realizing the independence of madrasas, pesantren, and Islamic religious tertiary institutions," said Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar.

Amin Suyitno, Director General of Islamic Education revealed in his report that the program launched was included in the RPJMN (National Medium-Term Development Plan) 2025-2029 related to the development of productive religious social funds as well as the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 8 of 2025 to encourage the role of collecting people's funds.

"Our opportunities and potential waqf are more than 180 trillion besides if we talk about zakat as well, the total is 327 trillion." said Suyitno.

The Chairperson of the Indonesian Waqf Agency and Secretary General of the Ministry of Religion, Kamaruddin Amin, revealed that Indonesia has 484 waqf bodies and has 61 banks that collect waqf money. "We need to invite them to synergize and collaborate while encouraging them to invite the authorities," Kamaruddin said.
Kamaruddin continued, referring to data from BWI, there were 448 kenadziran institutions. He encouraged that the State Islamic Religious Higher Education (PTKIN) was also a kenadziran institution.

"There are some obstacles and we are looking for a solution, so that in a time that is not too long Islamic tertiary institutions can become nadzir endowment of direct money.
"Hopefully we have succeeded in producing our very large amount of waqf assets," concluded Kamaruddin.

Also present were echelon II officials of the Directorate General of Islamic Education, Secretary of BWI and their ranks, Chancellor of PTKIN throughout Indonesia and echelon 1, 2 and 3 officials from the Ministry of Religion. Also present were luring and online Madrasa teachers throughout Indonesia.
